AGÜIMES: THE TRUE HISTORICAL HEART OF GRAN CANARIA
In the south-east of Gran Canaria, away from the most crowded tourist spots, there is the country of Agüimes. Here, time seems to stand still. The streets are made of stone, the houses have warm colours and the atmosphere is peaceful. Agüimes is one of the most authentic villages on the island.
Its history begins in the 15th century, during the Spanish conquest. At the time it was an important agricultural and craft centre. Today you can see a fine example of traditional canary architecture.
