BANANA MUSEUM

THE PLANTAIN MUSEUM: HISTORY, BANANAS AND TASTING

A few minutes from the centre of Arucas, in the north of Gran Canaria, is the La Rekompensa Platano Museum. Here you can learn all about the cultivation of bananas, one of the iconic products of the Canary Islands.

The visit is guided and takes you inside a real plantation. We talk about how bananas are grown, what work in the fields was like in the past, the tools used and the role this fruit has played in the island's economy. At the end, there is also a tasting with jams, sweets and even wines made from Canary Island plantains.

📍How to get there

By car: The museum is about 15 minutes from Las Palmas, easily reached by travelling along GC-2 and GC-20.

By bus: Arucas is well connected to the main towns on the island. It is a good destination for a day trip.

💡 Useful Tips

  • Visit the museum in the morning, when it is cooler and you can enjoy a walk among the plants.
  • If you like taking pictures, green plantations are a perfect backdrop.
  • Don't skip the tasting: the Canarian plantain is sweeter than the banana you find in the supermarket.

If you want to discover an authentic side of the island, between history, agriculture and gastronomy, the Platanus Museum La Rekompensa is an absolute must: GO TO SITE
